Hope is the desire and the expectation that something good is going to happen. It is the anticipation of success and fulfillment.
Here at The Salvation Army, we believe that Hope Works. It is not only at the heart of our mission, but it IS our mission. Hope Works is the initiative of The Salvation Army to respond to the changing needs of the Kansas City metro area.
Hope Works symbolizes our promise to this community that we will strive to use every resource more effectively and that we will constantly evaluate what we do and how we do it to meet the needs of contemporary society. Hope Works is our promise to use all of our facilities, volunteers, and staff in the most effective way possible so that every single person we touch gains a renewed sense of hope and dignity and purpose.
Since our inception in 1865, The Salvation Army has worked tirelessly throughout the world to bring hope to those most in need.
Here in Kansas City, there are thousands of girls and boys, men and women who need our help. Their needs are both immediate and long-term. The Salvation Army partners with generous individuals and fine organizations to provide stability and strength to those who are fragile and discouraged, and to those who daily fight the life-draining effects of poverty.
Our founder, William Booth, believed and taught that the Christian faith is best expressed in active service – hope made real whether it be through feeding programs, emergency lodging, disaster relief, or holiday gifts.
Currently, The Salvation Army offers over 20 programs and services here in the Kansas City metro. We group them into four major areas –that is, four major commitments we make to those in need.
Hope Works helps us envision a better Kansas City – where every child has safe haven. Where every veteran and senior citizen has a full and healthy life. Where every single parent family has the chance to set and reach attainable goals that break the cycle of poverty. Where every victim of disaster is given comfort, relief, and support.
Every 60 seconds, one of our Kansas City neighbors is helped by The Salvation Army.
Some at our Corps Community Centers.
Others under a freeway bridge.
Still others in a shelter for the homeless.
Our heritage of service is a long and proud one, yet there is not one minute where we can rest on our laurels. Too many of God’s children suffer. Too many see no light on the horizon. Too many have lost their dreams of a long, healthy, prosperous life.
We need your help. Of course we need your financial support and for that we are most grateful.
But we need more. We need your time. Your talents. Your prayers. Your support.
Hope Works. It’s who we are, what we do, and what we strive to become. And by the grace of God, we shall continue in our noble mission for years to come.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares our God.
They are plans for your welfare and not for evil.
They are plans to give you a future and a hope. “
